Anxiety - You don’t have to put up with it!

Updated: Nov 29, 2022

With everything that has happened over the last few years and with the uncertainties of our current situation, it’s no surprised there is a huge increase in mental health issues. With over 8.2 million cases of anxiety reported each year and increasing.

You don’t have to put up with your anxiety or your low moods - it doesn’t have to be apart of you or your identity. There are ways to overcome it.

So many of us carry on living with anxiety and depression because we believe there are no other options available to us, especially if we have been living like this for a long period of time. Anxiety is our stress response triggered when we are afraid or sense a perceived threat, it can cause many physical symptoms and intrusive thoughts that can spiral into panic attacks and phobias.

Our main defence is to avoid the situations that are causing the anxiety but overtime this may lead to anticipated fear of the anxiety for any situation associated with the initial trigger. This can begin to affect our self esteem and confidence leading to feelings of hopelessness and depression.

Some of us are more anxious than others and there are many factors that contribute to this. Your childhood will be one factor as many people who suffer with anxiety and depression have some personal experience of it growing up through a parent or significant caregiver. As we learn from our environment that the world is scary and we should be cautious. Other factors will be traumatic events and unaddressed issues or repressed emotions which can all result in severe anxiety.

All of these experiences are stored in the unconscious part of our brain not the conscious dealing with our daily tasks. This can cause us to feel conflicted as one part of us is telling us it’s illogical to feel this way while the other part is activated our flight or fight response, which overrides everything. Our unconscious part of our brain is there for our protection, it’s our survival instinct and it always WINS! Unless you do something about it this will only escalate.

Hypnotherapy targets the unconscious brain through guided relaxation to help retrain it to respond differently when triggered. Reframing deep rooted beliefs that are causing you to think and act in this way in the first place.

You don’t have to put up with it.
